A staple among fountain pen inks, Waterman’s Serenity Blue (also known as Waterman Florida Blue) is one of the best blue fountain pen inks out there. Not only is this a beautiful shade of blue, but it’s also highly affordable and widely available.
Waterman Blue works beautifully on all sorts of paper, from your cheapest to your most expensive. Rough paper fibres aren’t likely to bother this ink. Serenity Blue is non-toxic and pH neutral, works exceptionally well with vintage pens, and doesn’t stain tools or ink windows prone to ink absorption.
While there might not be anything fancy about Waterman’s Serenity Blue or the bottle (besides the tapered head for easy refills), this is a great blue basic that fountain pen users can enjoy at an affordable price.
Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-Kai
Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-Kai is a blue-black ink with a premium feel and reasonable price tag. It’s a gorgeous traditional shade that works with any pen nibs on any paper. It’s perfect for daily use without sacrificing elegance.
It’s a straight blue-black ink, with no dark grey undertones or other undesirable sheens. This is definitely one of our favourite fountain blue pen inks.
Diamine Shimmering Blue Lightning
Diamine Shimmering Blue Lightning is an apt name for this extra fun blue ink. Blue Lightning is a dark turquoise blue ink that truly does look like lightning on paper. And it’s all thanks to the soft silver glitter in the ink, which gives it its signature shimmer.
The best part about Diamine Shimmering Blue Lightning?
It’s super versatile.
For a more intense shine, shake the ink bottle right before getting to your writing. But for those days where you might not want a full shimmer, just let the bottle rest and the glitter particles sink. You’ll have a more subdued but still majestic blue ink.
This shimmery pigment is safe for all pens, but we recommend regularly cleaning your pen.
Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue
Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue is a dark blue and is such a favourite among fountain pen users that it comes in 1-litre jugs. Yes, you heard that right.
These inks perform well on almost all papers and are safe to use with most pens. Pelikan’s Royal Blue is washable ink, which means if you stain your clothes, you’ll be able to get rid of it when you do laundry. It can also be ‘erased’ with Pelikan Super Pirate, the ink eradicator.
All in all, this royal blue ink is an affordable and solid blue ink option that is especially great for beginner fountain pen users.

Platinum Pigment Blue
- Dye Ink
- Country of Origin:- Japan
- Package Dimensions : 5.7L x 5.7W x 6.3H (Centimetres)
Blue inks are, unfortunately, just as prone to failing the test of time as other inks. Unless your ink is UV-fade and water-resistant, your writing is likely to fade eventually. But with this permanent ink, Platinum Pigment Blue, you won’t have to worry about losing anything.
Made with insoluble pigment that dries down and doesn’t fade, this ink is your best choice for permanent blue ink.
Just be sure to clean your pens regularly. The same formula that makes this ink so time-resistant could clog or damage your pens if not properly maintained.
Diamine Majestic Blue
- Bottled ink- Available in 30ml, 80ml and Ink cartridges.
Diamine Majestic Blue inks are deep, dark blues with serious appeal. It’s a rich, saturated blue ink with a red sheen that shows up on higher-quality ink papers.
Because this ink is so deep and blue, it does take a little longer to dry. Still, with its sheen and deep colour, this beautiful blue ink is one of the best inks featured here today and is a must for any blue ink lovers.
Noodler’s Bay State Blue
Noodler's Bay State Blue ink is a vibrant sapphire ink that is bold and is bound to draw attention to even the drabbest paper. Almost neon in its blue tones, this glowy ink is one of a kind.
Not only does it look striking, but it also dries down fast. It’s also relatively water resistant but might lose some of its intensity if it gets wet.
Fair warning: while this colour is absolutely gorgeous, it does feather and stain like no other. You will need to regularly clean your pens and surroundings and prepare for the staining that comes with this blue ink.
While Lamy Blue is not as vibrant or fun as the inks mentioned above, it is a good, solid blue ink. It’s great for everyday use, and one of its best features is its ink bottle, which comes with blotting paper.
It’s also easily erasable with one of Lamy’s eraser pens. Lamy ink is a real winner for daily writing tools.
